NZAOT Values Exchange

“I have found the the Values Exchange tool to be a very useful for reflecting on ethical situations.  It provides a framework to prompt you to think about your values in real life practical scenarios.  I have included using this tool as a part of my professional development – i.e. understanding my values and reflecting on how these impact on my interactions with clients.

The site is really easy to use, and there is a video guide if you get stuck. You need to register, but once you have you can begin reflecting on cases. You can also look at others comments and reflections.”

Some guidelines

  •  As a member of NZAOT, you will already be registered to use the site. Sign in using  your e-mail address as your login and the word values as your password. You will be asked to give some demographic information which you will need to complete before you proceed.
  • Non-members of NZAOT can also register and have access to all the cases and surveys on the Home page.
  • Return to your Home page. Here you will see some cases for you to try. Simply click on: Considered Response and you will enter the case analysis section of the values-exchange. This will take you to the page with your case study details.
  • Once you have read your case study, click on next and you will be asked to commence your response to the case. From here, video help is available on each page to help you complete your analysis.
  • Do some 'practice' cases on the home page. There are no right or wrong answers. The more cases you do, the more interesting and quicker the process becomes.
  • NZAOT members also have access to additional cases: some are for all NZAOT members while others may be allocated for specific groups of members such as a workplace or a special interest group. These will be available to you by clicking the tab “SECURE” which is along the top menu on the Home page. Here you can complete cases which have been assigned to you.
  • If you find yourself without enough time to finish your analysis you can sign out and come back to it later. As long as you click on either a next or previous button prior to logging out of the values-exchange, your not yet complete analysis will be saved for you to continue working on. It will be there as you left it ready for you next time you log in to the NZAOT values-exchange.
  • Once you have completed and submitted a case, you can then see how others have responded and they can see what your response is. Simply click on View Reports which will be available under the case heading once you have submitted your case analysis. You will be taken to a screen where you can select from a huge selection of exciting and interesting reports.

Values are at least as important as evidence in human affairs. People do not love, or share, or go to war primarily on the basis of evidence. Whenever anything matters to us we act first because of our values...." - Professor David Seedhouse
