Adults with Intellectual Disabilities Special Interest Group

Welcome to the home page of ‘Adults with Intellectual Disabilities’ SIG (AWID) which is part of NZAOT. Members of NZAOT with an interest in the aims and key activities of the group are invited to join.

The group supports and promotes Occupational Therapy within services for adults with intellectual disabilities. NZAOT encourages the sharing of information, expertise and skills by providing a national resource and networking system for its members.

Objectives

  • To provide a network throughout New Zealand of occupational therapists with a special interest in intellectual disabilities in adults aged from 17 years of age and over
  • To facilitate the sharing and distribution of ideas and resources within the group
  • To be an identifiable resource for NZAOT Council and Executive Director for issues pertaining to learning/intellectual disabilities
  • To provide a forum to discuss occupational therapy issues in the area of intellectual disabled adults. Where concerns, which affect the profession locally, regionally and nationally, can be discussed
  • To provide the opportunity to facilitate consistency on policies procedures and issues nationally.
