NZAOT Occupational Therapy Process Standards (2007)

What is the purpose of the Process Standards?

The purpose of the Occupational Therapy Process Standards is to:

  1. Define the standard required for occupational therapists in delivering services, which can be audited (in conjunction with specific workplace standards), or used by individual occupational therapists to monitor their own performance.
  2. Ensure consistency of delivery of occupational therapy services.
  3. Give clear guidance to service providers, and the people who use occupational therapy, as to what they can expect from occupational therapists in New Zealand.

What is the scope of the Occupational Therapy Process Standards?

The Occupational Therapy Process Standards have been written for occupational therapists practising in New Zealand, and are designed to guide them to meet existing national standards in Health, Education and other specific sectoral workplace standards.

The standards take into account the current social, cultural and political environment.  The Standards are generic for occupational therapy, and are applicable to a wide range of work areas, age groups, and service settings.
