Karis Boyd Memorial Trust – Hardship Grant

 In memory of Karis Boyd, an occupational therapist who lived, breathed and personified all the values, qualities and virtues which the occupational therapy profession stands for. (1935 – 2009).

Applications are called for grants from the Karis Boyd Memorial Trust.

Applications close on the 15th April – annually.

The trust was established to support students who are experiencing hardship to complete their undergraduate qualification to become an occupational therapist.

The initial grants will be awarded to one or more applications that best meet most of the following criteria:

1.      Be a student entering their third year in the programme

2.      Be a current student member of NZAOT (membership year is 1 April – 31 March)

3.      Have an endorsement from the tertiary institution (student advisor or counsellor/lecturer/head of School/doctor) supporting the application  on hardship grounds (on letter head including the words: I support first name second name as meeting the criteria to apply for the Karis Boyd Memorial Trust – Hardship Grant.  Signed X, Designation Y)

4.      For reimbursement – or payment of:

    • textbooks and/or
    • travel/accommodation for field work placements and/or
    • attendance at NZAOT professional development events (clinical workshops/conferences).

The grant/s will be up to the value of $500.00.

Applications should consist of:

A two-page (max) letter which includes

    1. the name and contact detail of the student
    2. a one paragraph summary of the supports being sought
    3. budget including the total amount requested
    4. self reflection - student evidence of hardship – your story
    5. declaration of other hardship grants applied for and/or received.

The current trustees will evaluate and decide on the amounts and numbers of students to support.
