Accelerated Māori Occupational Therapy

Workforce Development

Te Tai Tonga MP Rahui Katene on behalf of Associate Minister of Health, Hon. Tariana Turia said, “Māori are entitled to the benefits of a workforce that value and promote the concepts, values and ways of thinking of te ao Māori.  Te Umanga Whakaora is an excellent resource to help the occupational therapy workforce make a real difference for those seeking a pathway towards whānau ora.  We must turn our words into actions, commitments into contexts that work, and then it is full steam ahead.”

The strategy is a guide for Māori and mainstream occupational therapy services and

  • responds to the unique challenges associated with recruiting, retaining, and equipping occupational therapists
  • provides pathways to extend Māori occupational therapy best practice, and
  • aims to improve the quality and responsiveness of services to whānau.
